Welcome to Dice Spotlight! I’m your Gamemaster, Jonathan, here at Connexxions Cafe. This blog highlights different games that we have at the Cafe that you may want to check out. Maybe you’ll discover a new favourite!
I got a party game for you all! The Game of Things (TGoT) is here to keep the party interesting and get those creative juices flowing! When guests come in asking for Cards Against Humanity, I direct them this way.
It's is easy to learn. One person draws a card like this: "THINGS...you shouldn't do in the office." They are the "reader" for this round. Everyone (including the reader) writes down a response to that question, folds it up, and gives it to the reader. He then unfolds all the answers, mixes them up, and then reads (WOAH SHOCKING) them out loud to the group. The person to the left of him now has the opportunity to choose one of those responses and guess which person wrote it. Was it correct? If yes, then that's one point and they get to guess again. If no, it moves onto the next person. The turn rotates around the table until all answers are guessed except the last man standing and the reader (who cannot be guessed for a point). The person who started guessing first is now the reader, so let's start again!
I REALLY like this game! As you can probably guess, it's quite easy to teach (makes my job much simpler :D). But that's not the main reason I like it. Do you remember how I mentioned that this game gets your creative juices flowing and how it's my replacement for Cards Against Humanity? Well, it's quite simple. Every question can have infinite possible responses. It's like every answer is a blank card from CAH. You can go with a simple, more traditional answer to the card above like this: "Punch your boss" (YAWN :P). OR you go for an answer that's off-the-wall-strange-weird-Jonathanyoumustbeadopted kind of thing like: "Hire the Lizard King as head of marketing and watch as your advertisements turn into Pro-Lizard Overlord propaganda". BOTH are valid answers! IT'S BEAUTIFUL! The slight downside is I usually get guessed right away and am out for the round, but gosh darn it, IT WAS WORTH IT! I SAW YOU SNICKER, YOU CAN'T HIDE THAT...........ahem, what I was saying was that you can write anything (and yes it can be as clean or as NSFW as you want) and that's what's so much fun about The Game of Things.
Thanks for stopping by! This one was fun to write, even though it was a shorter one. Come visit the Connexxions Cafe (12644 137 Ave, Edmonton) and say hi! Or ask me about a certain game that you’ve always wanted to learn. I’d be happy to work through it with you :) I'll see you next time!
